Unelected bureaucrats tried to force an EV mandate on Maine consumers through rulemaking. Thanks to 6 months of hard work by MiaPAC's Rep. Mike Soboleski and his bill LD 2261 the mandate was overturned by the BEP.
LD 1433 sponsored by, and LD 1363 Co-Sponsored by Rep. Mike Soboleski cleared the way for safe
Lithium Mining in the state of Maine. These bills were combined and will be a boon to the economies of western Maine that support the newly discovered lithium deposits in Newry.
LD 718 sponsored by MiaPAC's Rep. Mike Soboleski provided adequate materials for the disposal of Bio-Solids "sludge" in Maine. The bill was passed Just 2 days before raw sewage was going to be dumped. Before LD 718 our waterways were at risk of pollution from bio-solid waste. The bill was vital for protecting Maine's lakes and rivers.
LD 1246 was a bipartisan bill that included Endangered and Threatened Species Habitat in the Definition of "Significant Wildlife Habitat" Under the Natural Resources Protection Act. It passed in part due to MiaPAC's efforts.
LD 1639 would have forced staffing mandates onto our hospitals. This would have exploded operating costs and increased prices for healthcare in Maine. Through strong advocacy by MiaPAC and others the bill was abandoned and died upon statutory adjournment. MIA PAC will be watching for the 2.0 version in the 132nd legislature.
LD 1909 was a bipartisan bill that was amended in committee by Rep. Mike Soboleski to make sure that our redemption and recycling centers are protected to operate with less government red tape to protect our environment. LD 1909 gave our redemption centers a badly needed increase in income, in the prior 12 months we lost 18 redemption centers to stagnant cash flow and increased overhead costs.
ONA seeks to bring 75,000 new economic migrants into Maine. This is economically unsustainable. LD 2167, the bill to create the Office of New Americans, was slipped directly into the state budget. It never received a floor vote. The bill was illegally amended after the budget was passed. MIA PAC will be fighting this illegal process to protect the Maine taxpayer.
PMFL puts an undue financial burden on all Maine business. The rulemaking process is not business friendly. This mandate will crush small businesses and force companies to leave the state. Rep. Mike Soboleski has submitted 6 pages of comments on the proposed rulemaking and MIA PAC will continue to fight to make the proposed rules work for Maine's business community.
LD 2204 - An Act to Combat Racketeering in Scheduled Drugs by Certain Organizations was submitted by Rep. John Andrews in the 131st legislature. LD 2204 would have provided a mechanism to allow authorities to clean up and prosecute the illegal CCP Marijuana grows plaguing our rural communities. It was defeated on the floor of the House
MiaPAC will be fighting to return parents' voices to our schools. School Boards must be accountable to the families and communities that they represent.
There are supposed to be three branches of government in Maine - the Executive, Legislative and Judicial. In Maine there are two more unofficial branches. The permanent and bureaucratic Administrative State and the Non-Profit Industrial Complex. Both of these feed off the taxpayer with zero accountability.
State spending has increased steadily over the last six years. Mainers are being overtaxed through inflation and that surplus money is being spent instead of returned to the taxpayers. This is an issue that needs to be addressed in the 132nd legislature.
The Maine Issues & Action PAC was founded to identify the problems facing Maine and to take action to fix them. Often these issues are caused by short sighted policy proposals from elected officials or bureaucratic overreach from unelected Agencies. MIA PAC has successfully fought to stop these policies that hurt Mainers and will continue to do so.
